Officers shoot armed man in Watts alley, LAPD says At least one Los Angeles Police Department officer opened fire in Watts Friday morning, striking a man police say was armed with a gun.At about 6:40 a.m. in an alley in the 2100 block of East 103rd Street, an armed man was reportedly waving his handgun around in the alley, according to Lt. Letisia Ruiz of the LAPD.When officers arrived, the unidentified man "produced a firearm," prompting police to open fire, Ruiz said.The man was struck and taken to a local hospital, where he is in critical but stable condition."He is expected to survive," Ruiz said.No officers were injured in the incident, and a handgun was recovered at the scene, Ruiz said.KTLA's Luis Zuniga contributed to this report.

Man hospitalized after East Palo Alto shooting (KRON) -- A man was hospitalized following a shooting Thursday night near the East Palo Alto Library, according to police. Just before 8:30 p.m., officers responded to 2415 University Avenue after a ShotSpotter activation detected at least five shots. They found a man with apparent gunshot wounds to his upper torso area, police said. The FAA orders quick inspections of some Pratt & Whitney turbofan engines on Airbus jets WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. regulators are requiring immediate inspections and possible repairs to Pratt & Whitney engines on some Airbus passenger jets because of a manufacturing problem that could cause parts to wear out sooner than expected.The Federal Aviation Administration said Friday it will require ultrasonic inspections of 20 engines on U.S.-registered planes within 30 days. The same flaw affects 202 engines worldwide, the agency said.The FAA rule replaces a directive from October, which told aircraft operators to have the engines checked at their next shop visit, and followed a disclosure last month by Pratt that about 200 engines around the world would need quick inspections and potential replacement of engine disks.
